Counting Project

May 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Turning 35 has made me realize this very well might be my mid life and there are so many things I need to do. So I signed up for a belly dance class, joined a gym, got a home loan, and start counting my elephants. Let me give you a little background of this last task.

I’ve been saying for years that I needed to count them. I know I have tried a few times before – I think it was 8th or 9th grade.  At that time the was at 800 or so (I don’t recall the number).   I had to get a storage unit because there wasn’t enough room anymore in my parents place and surly there wasn’t room in mine either. I think the unit was first rented in 1994 or 95 and got elephants added to every year. It got to the point that whatever elephant gift I got went right into a box and soon would find its way to the storage unit. It saddened me that my elephant friends have been in there for so long but I couldn’t get rid of them. I could not find my rehab to let them go.

About a year ago I moved in a two bedroom apartment, I had to get two bedrooms so I could cancel the storage unit and use the second room as my storage. There was not enough room even for a desk!

This blog is going to chronicle my journey of counting my elephants and sharing my collection to everyone.

Welcome to my crazy Elephant life

May 13, 2009 · 1 Comment

I turned 35 this year and my goal: to count all my Elephants and get into the Guinness book of world records. Some people might think this is an easy process, but it’s not. I have been collecting Elephants since the day I was born… At least this is how I tell the story.

I was given my best friend at an early age. A lying down brown elephant with no tail, in no time it had to be by my side every night. I believe it was the first gift from my uncle David. My parents realized I enjoyed the elephant gift and “ran with the idea”, let me rephrase that, they “sprinted” with the idea of getting me elephants as gifts. Soon other family members and friends did too. Now at 35 it is a bad habit, a drug. I still can not stop looking for them in stores and have to see them if I go to the zoo. Elephants are truly my drug. As far as I know there is no rehab out there for an elephant addiction.
